My name is Maaike Koning and I am a second year Product Design student at HKU.From a young age I have always been creative.
Drawing, painting, clay and making artworks from cardboard were my favorite pastimes. In high school, I was able to further develop my creativity during visual education classes, where I really began to discover my passion for art and design.

In third grade, I took a special Design & Art track in addition to my regular classes. Every Friday evening I immersed myself in different disciplines, such as photography, fashion, architecture, 3D design and modeling. During this track, my interest in art and design grew and my dream was born: studying at an art school. I always knew I wanted to do a creative education, but from then on it was
clear-I wanted to study design.
To make this dream come true, after high school I chose to study Spatial Design at ROC Aventus. During this study I learned not only about materials and techniques, but also about concept development and how to present and substantiate ideas effectively. These years flew by and with a solid foundation in my pocket, I applied for admission to Product Design at the HKU, where I was accepted.

At the HKU I learn everything about the creative process: from the first idea to the final realization. Here I also discovered my love for ceramics, a discipline in which I am increasingly specializing.I am currently planning my third year of study, in which I will follow a minor or international exchange and do an internship.

With my work, I not only want to create beautiful objects, but also tell stories and inspire people. My passion for design continues to grow and I am always looking for new ways to develop myself.
